Heritage Engineering

In response to the continued backlog of customer service requests, MSD began implementing Project Drainage Response Initiative (D.R.I.) for Louisville and Jefferson County Kentucky. MSD has implemented a series of projects to be constructed over a three fiscal year period. Additionally, they have increased the amount of maintenance crew time to be utilized in resolving the open drainage requests. The maintenance activities designated to these efforts are estimated to be approximately $10M per year.

Heritage Engineers has been involved in Project D.R.I. since the inception. Heritage assisted in the development and implementation of the of a streamlined customer request review and maintenance field work scheduling system. Heritage developed the communication procedures for improved efficiency internally at MSD and in communicating with the 26 newly elected Metro Council Members. There are increased communication efforts with the Council Members in areas with the highest concentration of problems.

Heritage Engineers acts as a backup to MSD staff in reviewing open requests, prioritizing work, and scheduling projects for maintenance activities. Additionally, senior Heritage staff review and develop solutions for the more hydraulically complex projects or for those that appear to be difficult to construct. These efforts have led to constructing solutions on projects that had previously been categorized as outside of the capabilities of the MSD Maintenance forces.

As the capabilities of the Maintenance Department are expanded, the types of work that they can perform are increased. Heritage is preparing plans for MSD crews to use to perform work during the winter. This work must be easily accessible and contain some flexibility to achieve a reasonable production rate during the unpredictable winters of the Midwest. Heritage is preparing simple plans that will include an area several times larger than a typical maintenance project at a cost of less than 20% of the design fee associated with a full Capital Design
